Y’know, I think I finally pinned down EXACTLY why I didn’t like Chibiusa (and Rei, actually) for a very, very long time.

All the official artwork and a lot of fanwork has Usagi & Chibs as very adorable and loving together but then fucking DiC twisted it all to shit and made them so angry and awful towards each other that my tiny child brain was just all WHICH IS REAL. Add on to it the fact that Serena was SUPER whiny and that just made for a cocktail that 8 year old me just did not want to handle. 

I really hate that for a long time I had a love/hate relationship with the anime due to DiC because, as much as I loved the premise and the show itself, I absolutely loathed the characters sometimes. I couldn’t understand why they hated each other so much, or why it seemed like that. They were so rude! and whiny! and petty! Baby me didn’t have any friends so the fact that they were all working together but still being so awful (to me) was incomprehensible. I mean, it may not be as bad now, if I went back and watched, but I distinctly recall feeling irritated at Serena enough that I abandoned the anime for what little I could scrounge of the manga from the internet at the time (ah, askjeeves.)

It’s also why I didn’t like Uranus and Neptune as a child; I had given up on the anime for the few manga scans I could find, and the dub just wasn’t up to StarS at that point, so all I knew of them were a few sites telling me their attacks, a couple of pictures of them here and there, and a LOT of rabid fans attacking them for siding with Galaxia. I literally had no idea they actually had more backstory than “Galaxia’s minions” until high school, when a friend of mine who shared a love of all things magical girl introduced me to the wonderful world of Not-DiC SM. 

Fuck DiC man. Idk if I’ll ever be over that shitty dub.
