Dear friends, I need your help, share this message, help women* in Poland to fight for their rights! We need to scream loud to let the world hear us!
“Dear all, we are writing to you in deep sadness and disappointment. Our right-wing government just rejected a project which suggested a legalisation of abortion until the 12th week of pregnancy, followed by facilitating access to contraceptives and a good program of sexual education. Instead of that, the Parliament decided to discuss a law which will ban abortion in almost every case of endangered pregnancy. Even a miscarriage will be investigated to ensure that a woman has not willingly acted as if she wanted to get rid of her baby. Doctors removing a fetus, even when a women’s life is in danger, will also face legal consequences. This leads to leaving pregnant women almost without any medical support – doctors will be afraid of charges that might be out against them if anything goes wrong and the woman will miscarry.
Women will have to give birth to children conceived during rape, to fetus with a huge damage and prognostic of disability or even death just after birth, despite their own health , both physical and psychological. I do believe your wisdom and strength will help us be heard in Poland and world-wide. Polish women do not want to die for their children, they want to love and watch their children grow. All we are asking is to do it on our own terms, not under pressure of any government. We are asking for education, especially at schools, where teachers are not prepared to handle sexual assaults between kids or teenagers, where the girl and boy cliches are still very much alive. Being a parent is a heroism beyond any imagination, let’s not allow anybody to demand from us more than we can give.
