azuresquirrel:

I try to keep things politics-light on the blog nowadays for my own well-being, but I wanted to take a hot second to give you a reason (of many) why you should call your state senators regarding this tax bill that Ebenezer Scrooge would probably call a bit harsh.

My mother works for an agency that finances low-income housing in my state. One of the things it does is give proceeds to developers who build and maintain low-income housing so that people, you know, can have a place to live. Developers have an incentive to do this via federal tax breaks that currently exist for low-income housing.

Among the many things that this bill would do to completely screw the poor and middle class of this country, those tax breaks would DISAPPEAR, therefore giving developers zero incentive to make any of their properties lower than the market rate.

Her agency is currently scrambling to get a large number of contracts set before the end of the year in fear that this bill will pass, and I’m sure other agencies in other states are too. The effects of said bill-passage would affect large swaths of people and their ability to afford a place to live.

There are lots of other reasons why this bill is terrible, but this is one that I can properly articulate. So I really encourage you to express your concern and anger over this bill.
