academia culture is reading articles you know are terrible so you can shit on them with other people in your field later

for those of you who have been told that academia is this wonderful, sophisticated institution, it’s mostly about as mature as a middle school sleepover

One of my professors told our class, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, say it in a footnote,” and I personally thought was really beautful
