I was commissioned to do a version of the cover of Tamora Pierce’s Shatterglass that gave Tris a more accurate body type. It was neat working on it and sort of making it my own. Also I got to draw a tiny glass dragon.
Part 4 of @rhiorhino‘s Balto AU I hope you enjoy, I’m really enjoying writing it!
There was not much to recommend about the Alaskan wilderness, Mina often thought, especially by foot. The way was long, and it was cold, and they could only go so quickly, the three of them, though Haruka doggedly pushed them as far as they could go, every single day. Of course she did. She had a purpose.
Mina had loved Haruka from the first time she had met the useless and gangly puppy who had turned into a more useful but still gangly dog, and from the first, Haruka had believed. She’d believed that if she just tried hard enough, if she just worked enough, if she just brushed her fur the right way or learned the right commands, she would be a good dog. She would work, and she would be loved. It was just a matter of working hard enough.
And no matter what had happened to her, every single time, no matter how many times she said she had accepted what her lot in life was to be, she kept trying. This was no different. She wanted to save the children, that was true, but it was also true that she wanted to save herself. She wanted someone to say something kind. Something she could believe.
Mina could not argue with her on this point, so she simply trudged her way through the Alaskan wilderness with a bear who couldn’t swim and a wolf-dog with no sense, off on a mission they could not possibly carry off successfully but also could not be ignored.
This is the Haruka Balto AU, as sponsored by @rhiorhino! Part 4 should be released on the Patreon today, so you can catch up if you want, but I’m releasing the first installment to the main blog! Please let me (and rhio) know if you enjoy! You don’t need any knowledge of Balto to enjoy this.
“This is the dumbest thing you’ve ever done, and I say that in a long and storied history of dumb things you’ve done.” Mina looked down at Haruka from her perch.
Haruka shook her head. “Mina, someone has to get that medicine back to Nome. I know I’m the fastest dog here. Someone has to save those kids.”
Mina fluttered down next to Haruka. “Someone has to impress Michiru, too, am I right?”
Haruka felt a sting of embarrassment, and turned her head. “It isn’t that way, Mina. I–I really want to do this.”
But it had started off that way, hadn’t it? Haruka had always thought Michiru was beautiful, and the attitude was shared by a good many other dogs in Nome. She was purebred, and elegant looking, like a statue, and she belonged to one of the finest families in town.
Haruka, on the other hand, was a half-dog half-wolf mutt, something neither side wanted or could even define, and lived on the edges of Nome with a goose who couldn’t be bothered to fly south.
But it was nice to dream, and sometimes she let herself, in the way she sometimes dreamed of being a nice dog with a soft bed by a warm fire, who pulled a sled and who people patted on the head and told she was a good girl.
It had been a day like any other when Haruka came nose to nose with Michiru, after years of staring at her wistfully.
When you vote a straight democrat party it changes Beto to Cruz on some machines. If you’re in Texas and voting please RECHECK your answers. If your machine does this, notify someone working at the polling site.
We had to write a Mini Comic for my Illustration Class so I did mine based on The Frog and The Scorpion. Hopefully you all know the story!
But if you don’t know the story… In the original the scorpion stings the frog in the middle of the river. When the frog asks “why” the scorpion says “it’s in my nature” and they both die. I like my ending more.
Done with watercolor and pen and ink nib.
I always thought this story was fucked up, even when I heard it as a very young child. I even got put in the naughty corner, and a star next to my name crossed off for questioning it.
This story is so much better, and I like it’s message much more.
why do white suburban moms name their kids like they wanted to name their mmo character something relatively common but the name was taken so they have to find some really bizarre spelling of the name that sounds the same but definitely is not taken
“I wanted to name my daughter Ashley but Ashley was taken so I had to name her Aeshleigh”
god this is a big ask but I really wish there were like….. a site where you could plug in your state/district/whatever and tick some boxes on issues you prioritize and then the site would give you a rundown of the potential candidates in your area and where they stand on those issues in like….. clean simple bullet points. gimme the cliffnotes, I literally do not have the time or energy to comb through god knows how many articles and shit to figure out who to support, just tell me what their stance is on X, Y, and Z, and that’s gonna have to be enough.
It goes through who’s on your ballot and explains things like that based on your address.
this is really great. it gives you bullet points on what each candidate has said and done on each issue.
very illuminating, frankly, seeing the candidate’s own words and actions. for instance, under ‘defense/veterans’ the republican candidates almost always say something about a well-funded military, and the democrats almost always say something about getting veterans the medical care they need. makes it pretty obvious that republicans don’t care about soldiers once they’re done with them.
