“She seems like a nice girl, don’t you think?” Mercy slipped into her nightgown and turned back to Pharah as she brushed out her hair.
Pharah nodded, looking up from her book. “Pretty, also.” Mercy shot her a look of teasing jealousy, and she grinned. “But not prettier than you, how could she be?”
“Well,” Mercy tied her hair into a loose braid, and secured the end, “after all that mess with Amelie…” She did not look up at Pharah, but somehow felt her cringe, remembering the ugliness of the conflict, and how everyone had been hurt by it. She walked toward the bed and sat down next to Pharah, patting her leg comfortingly. Pharah was always so hard on herself. “It made us stronger. What I meant was,” she leaned playfully toward Pharah, “I’m happy Lena found someone who doesn’t want to kill her.”
“She hasn’t known her very long,” Pharah deadpanned, setting her glasses on the table, “give it time.”
Mercy tackled her. “You’re wicked, do you know that?”
