So fucking helpful, wish I had implemented some of these as a kid

A gift, from everyone’s favorite severely ADHD lesbian mama
duck, to her ADHD children (this probs crossapplies to other stuff as well)

I have been diagnosed with severe ADHD since I was 7 years
old. If you have any idea how much less girls are diagnosed with it, especially
as children, you have some idea of the seriousness of the situation. I
literally never stop moving, I am THE MOST IMPATIENT PERSON ON GOD’S GREEN
EARTH, I forget everything except, of course, entire Romantic poems, the exact
print of the dress Danielle the horse girl wore when she sat in front of me one
day in kindergarten, and the line by line script of Tombstone. You know, useful
stuff.

My emotions hit like fucking fireworks. They’re dramatic and
loud and over quickly.

I’m a mess. I still manage to have friends and hold down a
job and stay married. I graduated college with honors.

HOW MIGHT YOU ASK

I run. Exercise is literally the most helpful treatment for
my ADHD I have ever, ever found, INCLUDING MEDICATION, and among a lot of
people with severe ADHD, you’ll find that pretty commonly. The amount of
medication it takes to make us ‘focused’ is so high that it very often turns us
into zombies, and so you find yourself in a Catch-22. A lot of times, daily exercise
offers a lot of the benefits of medication without the side effects.

I usually go for a quick mile or so run at lunch, and then
about 3 miles after work. It dramatically helps, to the point where if I CAN’T,
I very much notice and struggle. ANYONE who struggles with ADD, I would
recommend exercise to. It’s literally changed my life and I would be shirking
my duty not to mention it.

I “taught myself to run” using the Zombies, Run! Couch to 5k
program. It doesn’t HAVE to be running—other things work as well, I’m sure, but
running is cheap and easy and requires no equipment.
