*talking to my so about this new mental health app that is suggesting some activities to uplift my feelings and boost my energy. it’s not working*
them: you probably dont feel it because your body is used to it
me: yeah well i’ve been depressed for years, what else is new
them: i understand….but love conquers all!<3 ❤

um if you dont mind, what app was it that you used to keep track of like your mental health? i think that was you that had one? (you(?) mentioned recently that you don’t use it much anymore) or if you don’t use one, do you or any of your followers have a good recommendation for a mental health app? thank you!

I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED THIS because I’ve been wanting to make a mental health app power post but I didn’t know if it would be presumptuous assuming that y’all even cared what I use but this. yes. good. I love sharing.

the app you’re probably thinking of is Wysa, which is a super great place to start your mental health tracking. Wysa’s a cute little chatbot that keeps track of your moods and energy levels and offers up tips and tricks like exercise, mindfulness activities, and other videos to help bring you out of negative moods. it sounds a little cheesy, but honestly just the process of talking out your problems to an adorable cartoon bird can help shake off your negative headspace.

the more you talk to Wysa the more helpful they’ll be – and that includes on days when you don’t feel bad! talk to them when you feel good too, because they’ll log what made you feel good and help you remember that! it took me forever to make a habit of that, but the feedback from Wysa has become a lot more helpful since I started checking in almost every day instead of just on crappy days.

the Google Fit app can be connected to Wysa to help monitor your physical activity, and I’d strongly recommend doing it. the Google Fit app is super easy to use and is designed for all kinds of exercise – it has features for almost every kind of exercise imaginable, from walking to yoga to badminton.

Wysa recommends a lot of meditation and mindfulness activities, and if you’d like to invest more in that then I’d VERY strongly recommend downloading Stop, Breathe & Think. it had a pretty impressive selection of guided meditations – very helpful if you have a hard time focusing on your own, like I do, although lately I’ve started working my way up to solo meditations! – which are recommended based on your mood. at the start of each meditation you have the option to enter a few emotions that you’re feeling (there are a LOT of options to pick from!) and the app recommends 3 or 4 meditations that it thinks fit your present state of mind, although you’re free to pick from any of them.

plus, if you meet certain goals, you get STICKERS.

if you’re prone to getting overwhelmed and stressed out easily, or if you have problems structuring your free time, or if you just feel like getting a little more organized, Todoist is the way to go. it took me a while to get the hang of how to set up the projects and tasks in a way that was effective for me, but once I got rolling I got addicted fast. it’s really helpful to have a list of things I need/want to do every day at a glance, and the feeling of satisfaction when you swipe right to check them off the list is UNBEATABLE. plus, being able to set things like work or therapy appointments or class to repeat is SUPER HELPFUL.

also for all you period-having peeps out there, idk abou you but my menstrual cycle and the related hormone screwiness can SERIOUSLY mess up my mental health, so I just downloaded the Clue app to help track my cycle and be more conscientious of my symptoms, because it’s really nice to know WHY I just wake up feeling like garbage some days. it can monitor as few or as many variables as you want, ranging from things like heaviness of your flow to what kinds of food your craving. admittedly I haven’t had much time to get to know Clue or rate its effectiveness, but I still wanted to throw it in because I’m pretty jazzed about it and I have some high hopes.

OKAY I HOPE THIS HELPS
