It’s been a while since I watched Cardcaptor Sakura, but still there are some episodes that stand out for me. These are those episodes.
10. Sakura’s Sheep Warning
A big hole appears in the middle of the playground for apparently no reason. When Sakura ventures inside, she is quickly drowned in plush sheep. She awakens the “Erase” card to get rid of the sheep. The problem is solved. There are no more sheep. There is no hole anymore. Did any of this happen? We’ll never know.
9. Sakura and Farewell to Meiling
Sakura and Meiling have a sleepover. Meiling realizes her value despite being a nonmagical girl. Everyone is happy with themselves for once.
8. Sakura and Double Trouble
Eriol says “Hey, I know we could make Sakura use the Shield card by attacking her in literally any number of ways, but instead I’m going to force Yue and Kero to stay in their magical form and let her figure it out from there.” Yue and Kero make themselves useful by doing some chores around the house.
7. Sakura and Memories of her Mother
Sakura’s dead mother appears before her and she realizes it must be an illusion because why should such a miracle happen to her. The first episode that made me cry. Also, the first time out of many that one particular cliff claims a victim. I think every major character falls off that cliff at some point. There should be a sign or something.
6. Sakura’s Never-Ending Day
Groundhog Day, but with magical girls instead of Bill Murray. Kids now have the power to control time.
5. Sakura and the Summer Holiday Homework
A book is missing from the library. Instead of finding another book to write a report about, Sakura and her friends spend 20 minutes chasing the book around instead, because “Piglet Story” is the literary epic of our time.
4. Sakura’s Dizzy Fever Day
Great news: The Mirror card is sentient and has feelings. Sakura is willing to sacrifice personal health to capture all the cards and rescue everyone else. Ghost Mom Ex Machina saves the day.
3. Sakura, Yukito, and the Vanishing Power
Touya gives up his magic to save Yukito. Very interesting exploration of the way magic works in this universe and the sacrifices that must be made in its name. Very gay.
2. Sakura and the Blacked Out School Arts Festival
Sakura gets to be the prince in the school play because gender roles are dead. The optimism in Sakura’s heart saves everyone. The Light and Dark cards are in love.
1. SAKURA AND THE DANGEROUS PIANO
This episode is a work of art and I already summarized it here. Rest in pieces, Piano.
I saw this on my professor’s door and I can’t even deal with the accuracy.
